Technical Cabinet, Opera Leipzig

  • Deutsch
  • The Technical Cabinet of the Leipzig Opera houses over 300 pieces of historical lighting equipment from almost 150 years of theatre history. Founded in 1984 as a teaching cabinet for the training of stage technicians and lighting designers, the Technical Cabinet is now a place of collection and preservation. Spotlights, control panels and colour changers, which have been found in numerous German theatres over the years, are lovingly restored and maintained, and their historical backgrounds researched and documented. In addition, the cabinet has extensive archive and documentation material, which is used for the systematic cataloguing of the exhibits and is being digitised step by step.

A cooperation with the CANON project, as well as an independent evaluation of the existing knowledge, has been agreed with Michael Röger, the main person responsible for this volunteer-run collection.
