The Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound (RITCS) is one of the internationally renowned Schools of Arts of the Erasmus Brussels University of Applied Sciences and Arts (EhB). EhB is also actively engaged in research. Artistic research groups within the Schools of Arts carry out artistic and academic research, while several Centers of Expertise engage in practice based research projects, which are often multidisciplinary in character. The former Expertise Centre for Technical theatre of RITCS is now part of the Open Arts and Futures research centre of EhB.

The Expertise Centre for Technical Theatre leads the Canon II project. This research unit has since 2013 a strand on the history of technical theatre with a focus on educational use. Projects like “Wood and Canvas”, “Changement a Vue”, “The one to four scale theatre” and “Fading lights” and the leadership of the first Canon project reflect a continuous expertise in the field.

The Expertise Centre for Technical Theatre has a wide international network of experts and organisations in the performing arts fields as well as in the collection and museum field. This network is based on exchange of information and expertise, and collaboration in funded as well as non-funded projects.

STTF was founded in 1976 out of a need to offer continuing education for employees in the industry. The Swedish Theatre Technical Association (STTF) is a non-profit, independent association supported by its members, who are professionals working with stage technology, lighting, sound, costume, make-up/wig and related design fields, as well as scenography and stage architecture.

The purpose of STTF is to jointly create, operate, and develop a functioning industry network of individuals and workplaces that are active in our various fields for those working in performing arts, culture, film, or event production.

STTF works to promote qualified education and continuing education, create paths to problem solving, develop methods, present new technology, and promote research and safety work.

STTF is the Swedish section of the international organization OISTAT, a worldwide association of performing arts professionals such as scenographers, theater technicians, and architects. Thanks to this, STTF can facilitate international contacts among colleagues around the world. OISTAT usually holds meetings every two years, with the Prague Quadrennial taking place every four years and a congress with seminars in between.

Connecting the arts in the Czech Republic

The Theatre Institute is the only institution in the Czech Republic that, with love and professionalism, studies, records, preserves, and provides access to information on theatre to anyone interested in learning about its history and its present. We are the memory of Czech theatre – as once a work for the stage has its final performance it is gone.

We operate as an open centre of information, scholarship, consultation, education, and publishing in the field of theatre. We provide a wide range of services (a library and video library, web portals and databasesbibliographic and documentation services). We organise and participate in international projects, engage in researchdocumentation work, collecting activities, and organising exhibitions, and we also publish scholarly and specialised literature on the theatre.

The Institute of lighting design (ILO) was founded in 2007 in Amsterdam to strengthen the role of the independent lighting designer in society, focusing on the artistic and conceptual development and the promotion of the lighting designer in the fields of the performing arts, museums, architecture and the living environment. Rooted in the artistic field, iLo continues to stimulate the quality of light, lighting design and its profession. Keywords in our mission: creativity, connection, knowledge transfer, open source sharing.
