About Canon II
The Canon II project develops methodologies to accurately describe and digitize collections of artefacts and archives in the fields of lighting design, lighting technology, stage design and sets based on an Open Data structure. The results will benefit educators, learners and collection owners, and can be used to document both historical and contemporary lighting and set designs and lighting technologies.
Canon II develops the methodologies through peer learning, hands-on workshops, training and collaborative work in the Canonbase database, supported by information science experts to ensure effective links to Open Data collections.
The development is based on use cases that are described, digitised and documented in the existing Canonbase. Associated partners bring additional expertise to the project and help disseminate the results.
Canon II creates ontologies, documented interoperable data structures, taxonomies and controlled languages for the fields we cover. The developed expertise is documented in open source guidelines, help pages, training and training material.
The use cases document a variety of cases in the investigated fields and can be used as examples for documentation, but also as a base for course material for teaching and learning. The project results will help make collections/archives more discoverable and meaningful to learners.
Canon II is the successor to the original Canon project that ran between August 2019 and December 2022. It is a European Erasmus plus project with partners from Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United kingdom. The project runs from 15/8/2025 till 14/8/2028.
